FREEPORT, Florida -World-renowned golf course architecture firm Palmer Course Design announces its plans to design a new championship golf course for Owl’s Head, a new residential development by Owl’s Head Development LLC in Florida’s Panhandle, between Panama City and Destin.
"With Mr. Palmer’s philosophy to seamlessly blend the course with the natural environment and terrain of the land, we felt that Palmer Course Design was a natural fit to design Owl’s Head," said Jeff Tucker, principal, Owl’s Head Development LLC.
"Palmer Course Design is one of the most respected golf course design companies in the country and we are excited to be working with them. The company’s reputation and attention to detail would be a tremendous asset to any community."
According to Palmer Course Design Golf Course Architect Thad Layton, the 7,500-yard course at Owl’s Head is being designed as a core golf course. It will feature contrasting nines, showcasing the diversity of the terrain in Florida’s Panhandle. Unprotected from the brisk ocean breeze coming in from the Gulf of Mexico, the front nine will play through a series of rugged dunes and bunkers draped with native grasses. The back nine will meander through heavily wooded hills offering breath-taking vistas for miles and elevation changes of up to 80 feet. Combined with the land’s natural gifts and the artistry of the Palmer Course Design team, the course at Owl’s Head will be as scenic as it is enjoyable to play.
"This is a great piece of land that we have to work with," Layton said. "We will utilize the unique features of the property to create a premier championship golf course at Owl’s Head."
Palmer Course Design is currently in the planning and routing stages and anticipates construction on the golf course to begin in January 2006. The golf course at Owl’s Head will be situated on 220 acres, 180 of which will be used for the course.
Owl’s Head will be located approximately halfway between Destin and Panama City on Highway 331, 10 miles south of Interstate-10 and in close proximity to the beaches of South Walton County. The future development encompasses nearly 1,600 acres of rolling terrain previously dedicated to agriculture. Owl’s Head is bordered on two sides by thousands of acres of natural preserve.
The first phase at Owl’s Head will include approximately 400 homesites with a groundbreaking anticipated for the first quarter of 2006.
