Mission Viejo, Calif. (Sept. 21, 2005) — Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club was voted No. 2 as Best Golf Course in the 12th Annual Best of Orange County readers survey that was conducted by the Orange County Register. More than 125 categories encompassing sports, services, activities, entertainment and shopping were included. An independent company tabulated the ballots.
"It is truly an honor that the golfing community has voiced their opinion and selected Arroyo Trabuco as one of the best courses in the county," said Matthew Donovan, the club’s general manager. "From day one, our goal has been to provide a memorable experience at affordable prices. It is gratifying to know that in a little over one year we have met that objective especially with so many courses in the area."
Designed by PGA Tour pro Tom Lehman and architect Casey O’Callaghan, the club opened July 1, 2004 and was named one of the Ten Best New Public/Resort Courses by Travel and Leisure Golf Magazine.
Set amidst Trabuco Creek and the Ladera Ranch Land Conservancy, this incredible 240-acre golf provides an unforgettable golf experience on par with South Orange County’s finest high-end clubs. Conveniently located off Avery Parkway, in Mission Viejo, Arroyo Trabuco offers unparalleled value in a pristine, park-like setting featuring an 18-hole golf course, world-class practice range with nationally recognized instructors and an exquisitely designed clubhouse, restaurant and banquet facility. Most importantly no homes will ever be built on the property.
The natural setting and open spaces give the course a Links type feel, but with resort playability. The front nine winds away from the clubhouse towards the hills and features both serene and challenging holes. The No. 4 hole is 231-yards and is one of the most difficult par 3s in the county. It is also the sight where co-designer Lehman made a hole in one during the grand opening.
The back nine does not start at the clubhouse, the course flows through the hills and begins with a tricky, but reachable par 4. The 12th hole could be one of the toughest in the area. It is a 495-yard par 4 from the tips, 467 yards from the blue tees and 455 yards from the white tees.
The other focal point of the club is the banquet, wedding and conference facilities. The banquet room is 5,600 square feet and can provide seating for up to 300 people. The lush, rolling golf course rimmed with breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and canyons provides the perfect setting for your special event. The ranch-style atmosphere is reflected in our unique menus, which are designed to offer both familiar and exotic tastes, along with an extensive Sunday brunch menu and monthly wine dinners that rival those of any five-star establishment.
One of the signatures of the course is its barbecue. The smell from the smoker located on the patio lures in hungry diners from on and off the course. Ribs, chicken and tri tip are slow cooked and have a mesquite aroma. Golfers who can’t wait till after the round to taste the barbecue can take a pulled pork slider sandwich with them.
