Renovated golf course boasts tif-eagle greens, reconfigured fairways
Lake Mary, Fla., Sept. 22 – After more than six months of reshaping, replacing and restoring, Magnolia Plantation Golf Club is on course to re-open on Sept. 24.
"We are very excited about launching this course," said new owner, Tim Coolican who, along with his wife, Patrice, bought the course after it was foreclosed on in March. "We have a great team of professionals who have been working non-stop to get this course into top condition. With all the changes and upgrades that have been made, it’s in better shape than it has ever been."
Coolican, an active member of the PGA, was assisted by Tommy Fazio to create a plan for an extensive renovation that included reshaping 14 fairways, filling in portions of four lakes, and completely scraping the greens and replanting them with tif-eagle grass. In addition, drainage was completely revamped.
"I knew the renovation would be a long process and I was prepared to take the necessary time to make sure this course could open as a top-notch facility in pristine condition," said Coolican.
To ensure the best playing surface, Coolican hired Ken Orender and Joshua Freese who have more than 20 years of combined experience including Grand Cypress in Orlando and St. Andrews in Boca Raton.
Coolican comes to Central Florida from Vero Beach, Fla., where he spent 10 years as general manager at Fairwinds Golf Club. He will act as General Manager and Director of Golf, and be on site every day to oversee the operation of the course. Patrice Coolican is a former vice president and regional sales manager for Bank of America. She is Chief Financial Officer for the golf course and handles member relations.
In addition, Michael O’Brien has been named Head PGA Professional, and is responsible for implementation and management of member leagues and programs as well as development of junior programs. O’Brien is a third-generation PGA Professional and the former head professional at Broadmoor Country Club in Indianapolis.
