SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – National Golf Club has hired Jean McAfee as Membership and Marketing Director.
McAfee is a golf industry veteran, having worked for IZOD CLUB Golf Apparel for 14 years. She began her career with IZOD CLUB in her native state of Pennsylvania, and also worked for IZOD CLUB from 2000-03 after moving to Southern Pines.
McAfee’s first day on the job was Aug. 29 and she’s excited about taking on such a high-profile position as one of the area’s premier golf club communities.
"When I walk out of the clubhouse it’s like stepping into our own little heaven – not haven, but heaven. The course is absolutely gorgeous," McAfee said. "And everybody has been fabulous and welcomed me with open arms."
McAfee’s duties will include increasing an already-growing membership base, working with existing members on events and activities, and marketing National Golf Club as a whole. She plans to get members more involved in club activities and create more children-oriented events inside the private, gated community.
McAfee takes over for Mary Smithson, who held the position for almost three years. Smithson left Sept. 9 to join her husband in the family business and prepare for the birth of their first child.
"Everything is headed in the right direction and I plan to keep things on course," McAfee said. "I will definitely be spreading the word about National."
McAfee lives in Southern Pines with her mom, Eleanor Levitsky. In her spare time, she enjoys photography and bicycling.
