Manchester Grand Resorts announced today that more than $1 million in improvements will soon be complete at The Grand Golf Club. The highlight of the project was a redesign of the 16th Hole. The Grand Golf Club, designed by acclaimed golf course architect Tom Fazio, is San Diego County’s only Fazio designed course.
Under Fazio’s direction, the changes to the 16th hole were a redesign of the existing par 4 into a par 5, lengthening the hole by approximately 110 yards. The new green will feature bunkers on the left and right at a higher elevation, with the water behind the green now coming into play for those trying to reach the green with their second shot. The changes to the course are being made at considerable expense to improve the overall quality of the golf experience. The service and quality will be further enhanced upon completion of the new 50,000 square foot clubhouse opening in June 2006.
"It was our intention, with the help of the Fazio design team, to create a more challenging hole, creating a high risk-reward decision for the player as he concludes his round," said Herb Moore, Director of Golf at The Grand.
Within the 380 acres of The Grand Golf Club lies 24 acres that will encompass The Grand Del Mar, a 261-room luxury resort hotel with spectacular accommodations, a full-service spa and thirty-nine five-star, 4,000 square foot residential ownership villas nestled into the rolling hills and coastal canyons that surround the dynamic golf course in Del Mar, California. Special attention will be paid to the culinary experiences that the resort will offer, as well as the artistic and aesthetic touches applied throughout the property. Building designs will honor the architectural traditions of visionaries from the early 1900’s, including Addison Mizner (1872-1933), whose sun-washed, regional style launched the "Florida Renaissance" and defined the resort communities of Palm Beach and Boca Raton. The style and appeal are inspired by the decorative arts of Mediterranean Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
Located twenty miles North of San Diego International Airport, The Grand Del Mar Resort & Spa and The Grand Golf Club are located at the center of the La Jolla-Rancho Santa Fe-Del Mar triangle and enjoy an ideal golfing climate with an average of over 300 days of sunshine a year.
