Matrix Staffer Choi leads the field in driving accuracy with the new Matrix Ozik TP-7.
Brea, CA, October 3, 2005 – Matrix Composite Corporation (www.mccshafts.com) asked for PGA Tour feedback before launching the Matrix OZIK shaft-franchise and the $1000 Matrix OZIK TP-7. K.J. Choi answered in a big way. Choi, a Matrix Staff player, lead the tournament in Driving Accuracy at 83.9% and cruised to a two-shot victory at the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro.
Choi, who also won the S.K. Telecom event on the Asian Tour for the third consecutive year in 2005, ended a three-year winless streak on the PGA Tour with his victory at Greensboro. Choi played the OZIK TP-7 in his driver, the OZIK TP-7x in his 3-wood, and the Matrix HB-T in his hybrid club.
"K.J. had been experimenting with several different driver and 3-wood set-ups recently," reported Matrix Tour Representative Joe Miera. "But from the minute he started using the OZIK shafts, we knew we had the best possible combination. For four rounds of golf, he could not miss the driver. . . . It’s a great win for K.J. and it’s a very rewarding win for the Matrix family."
Choi finished with an amazing 6-under par 66 to shoot 22-under for the event, one stroke off the tournament record. The South Korean golf icon averaged 283.9 yards in driving distance and also lead the field in Putts per Green. The $900,000 in earnings moves Choi to 33rd on the money list, starting the week at 87th.
The win in Greensboro continues a very successful testing period for the yet-to-be-released Matrix OZIK shaft franchise. Already in 2005, the OZIK has been used to earn 3rd place at The British Open and nine other PGA Tour Top 10 finishes. Four other players used OZIK in Greensboro.
Matrix OZIK line and the much-talked-about $1000 Matrix OZIK TP-7 and TP-7x are scheduled to be launched sometime in early November through Matrix Authorized Dealers and major golf club manufacturers.
