ALPHARETTA, GA. – The Golf Club of Georgia, home of the annual Georgia Cup match between the United States Amateur champion and British Amateur champion, has named Glenn Sheeley its Director of Communications and Business Development.
Sheeley, 54, has covered golf full-time for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution since 1994 and won numerous writing awards from the Golf Writers Association of America.
Among his other responsibilities at The Golf Club of Georgia Sheeley will handle media relations and communications for the Collegiate Masters, which will debut April 10-11 and promises to be the most prestigious invitational tournament in collegiate golf; and the Georgia Cup, which enjoys its ninth year in 2006.
"We feel very fortunate to have secured someone with Glenn’s reputation in the golf community," said Director of Golf Jeff Paton. "He has covered every important event in golf worldwide and we are excited that he has brought that experience and expertise to The Golf Club of Georgia."
In a 26-year career with the Journal-Constitution, Sheeley has reported on all of golf’s major championships, including the United States Amateur; and every Masters tournament since 1984. His work also has appeared in several national magazines.
Sheeley has made several appearances on The Golf Channel and Fox SportsSouth and was an analyst for three years on CNN’s "Golf Plus" show, which aired worldwide. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Golf Writers Association of America and is a former president of the Pro Football Writers of America.
A graduate of Penn State University and a native of Hershey, Pa., Sheeley lives in Woodstock, Ga., with his wife, Nora.
