PJP, Inc. and SportsOne Inc. become sister companies
PORTLAND, Ore. (October 7, 2005) – Jacobsen Management Group, LLC, a newly formed corporation that oversees Peter Jacobsen Productions, Inc. (PJP), has recently acquired Portland, Ore.-based SportsOne Inc.
SportsOne has been in the sports marketing business since 1995 delivering sponsorship sales, marketing and client services to both sports properties and corporate sponsors. The SportsOne team has more than forty years of combined professional sports marketing experience.
SportsOne is dedicated to maximizing its sports property clients’ revenues through the development, sales and service of superior corporate sponsor partnerships. Simultaneously, SportsOne is committed to maximizing its corporate client’s sponsorship investment through exceptional sponsorship service and activation.
SportsOne’s clients include Tournament Golf Foundation, Inc. (TGFI), and the University of Portland department of athletics. TGFI owns and operates two of the premier LPGA Tour events on the circuit – the Safeway Classic in Portland, Ore.; and the Safeway International in Phoenix, Ariz. SportsOne is also the owner and producer of the 54th annual Oregon Sports Awards, a televised awards show held annually on the Nike World Campus in Beaverton, Ore.
"Both PJP and SportsOne are passionate about creating and managing golf tournaments that offer unique experiences for clients, customers and golf professionals," says Peter Jacobsen, managing director of Jacobsen Management Group. "By making PJP and SportsOne sister companies, we are creating an extraordinarily powerful partnership that will allow us to grow both business units by combining the best traits and practices of both organizations."
With the acquisition, SportsOne president and founder, Jim Etzel, will continue to lead SportsOne, in addition to becoming the senior vice president of PJP. Jim is a longtime friend and past employee of PJP. He served as Director of Business Development and Senior Account Executive for PJP from 1988-1994.
"This is a tremendous opportunity not only for me, but for the entire SportsOne staff and PJP," said Etzel. "I’ve always held PJP in high regard, and to be able to team up with them is only going to help grow both companies. I am looking forward to the exciting opportunities and challenges that are ahead."
Etzel has extensive experience with nearly 20 years of service in the sports marketing industry. Concurrent to SportsOne in 1999-2000, Etzel was the vice president of business development for the start-up company Greens.com. He has served as director of the Western Region for Regency Productions by Hyatt, a sports and entertainment marketing company and subsidiary of Hyatt Corporation; he currently serves as the board vice president of the Boost Foundation; and as an active member of the Oregon Sports Authority he served on the board of directors.
