Merger brings together leading golf travel newsletters
SHORT HILLS, N.J. – Oct. 11, 2005 – Golf Odyssey today announced it has acquired The Golf Insider, effectively merging two of the industry’s pre-eminent, upscale golf travel newsletters.
Both Golf Odyssey, on the eve of celebrating its 13th anniversary, and The Golf Insider have long prided themselves on traveling nationally and internationally to review premier golf destinations and resorts – from well-known vacation spots to soon-to-be-discovered nuggets. Separating itself from other golf travel publications, Golf Odyssey does not accept any advertising, courtesy discounts, or gifts from golf courses, resorts or restaurants.
The combined newsletter will be published under the Golf Odyssey banner. David Baum, publisher and editor-in-chief, promises an enhanced product while vigorously maintaining an objective, impartial posture.
"We have an exclusive and loyal following at Golf Odyssey, and we look forward to welcoming the equally passionate readers of The Golf Insider," said Baum, a former Goldman Sachs partner who acquired Golf Odyssey earlier this year. "Combining the editorial expertise of both publications, and continuing to explore destinations in an in-depth fashion with an insider’s perspective, is unquestionably a win-win scenario for our readers."
Baum said in early 2006 he plans to incorporate a number of regular features from The Golf Insider into the pages of Golf Odyssey, which will continue being published on a monthly basis. (The Golf Insider, headed by Publisher Robert Pedrero and Editor Larry Olmsted, had been published eight times a year.) Prior to taking over Golf Odyssey, effective with the May issue, Baum had been a longtime subscriber to the newsletter. With this merger, Golf Odyssey now possesses one of the world’s largest collections of reviews, encompassing nearly 1,000 courses and 500 resorts in more than 30 countries, with North America, the British Isles, Mexico and the Caribbean as its primary focus of coverage. Its proprietary rating system gives readers the opportunity to make informed decisions on where to go, when to travel, what courses to play and where to stay and dine.
One-year subscriptions (12 issues), for $98, to Golf Odyssey can be ordered by calling toll-free at (800) 550-2286 or by logging onto www.golfodyssey.com.
