About this role:
The Assistant Director, Championship Content will plan and own the editorial calendar for the USGA’s 15 national championships, and the USGA Golf Museum & Library. Using a strategic approach that connects to the USGA’s mission and priorities, while also serving to entertain, educate, and inform, they will develop an editorial strategy that is consistent across all delivery platforms. This person will oversee the day-to-day management of USGA-owned content channels, including but not limited to, social, website, app, and newsletter content. The Assistant Director will utilize data to drive direction and decision making for USGA championship content. The role sits within the USGA’s Communications team, and will lead collaboration among colleagues from across the organization to ensure that the best stories are identified and told in a way that highlights championships, competitors, host sites, and their impact on the game. This position can be based at our offices in either Liberty Corner, NJ or Pinehurst, NC, on a hybrid schedule.
What you’ll do:
- Oversee creation and management of a 12-month broad-based championship content plan, accounting for USGA priorities, audiences, and channels, plus week-of owned media plans for each championship.
- Oversee ideation of championship storylines that ultimately drive content creation decision-making and distribution, working closely with the Video Production and Creative Services teams to bring concepts to life.
- Maintain a calendar of project deadlines and content launch dates.
- Assist in developing and executing distribution strategies of content across multiple USGA platforms, and external channels as needed, working with Digital Media and Marketing teams to integrate engagement goals, optimize content, and maintain consistency of brand voice across channels.
- Utilize current research, emerging trends and best practices to recommend changes and optimizations to continually improve message content, creative, user experience and digital engagement.
- Consistently evaluate operational workflows for efficiency and scalability, identifying challenges and providing innovative solutions.
- Track content performance and monitor consumer feedback to inform or adjust decisions.
Where you’ll be:
This role can be based at our Liberty Corner, NJ or Pinehurst, NC campus on a hybrid schedule. Employees are expected to spend 3 days per week working in the office, between Monday – Thursday. This position will also be expected to travel approximately 50 days per year.
What you bring:
- 8+ years of experience in editorial/content creation across multimedia platforms.
- Previous people manager experience is a plus.
- Previous sports experience and knowledge/appreciation for golf is a plus.
- Collaborative approach to collecting ideas and feedback, and putting them into action.
- Solid track record of driving organizational impact
- Strong editorial and creative judgment, and deep knowledge of how content is consumed across various platforms by different audiences.
- A passion for interactive, multimedia storytelling, with superb written communication skills.
