The Staff Writer, PGA TOUR Digital will play a crucial role in the TOUR’s storytelling efforts to elevate its tournaments and players and deepen our fans’ connection to the game. This role will not only produce news stories and features, but also will be a resource throughout the organization. This position will be integral to the TOUR’s owned-and-operated platforms, including its newly re-imagined app and website, covering breaking news, writing features and editing copy. The Staff Writer, Digital will also be a regular contributor PGA TOUR LIVE, and collaborate regularly with PGA TOUR’s Social and Originals team. With a deep knowledge about the TOUR and its players, the Staff Writer, Digital will be a key voice in setting the TOUR’s storytelling initiatives across departments. This role will travel to events and off-site shoots.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required. Communications or Journalism degree preferred
- Four to six years writing experience, preferably at a media site, newspaper or magazine with a daily or weekly deadline
- Background in golf preferred; golf interest required
- Strong social media and Internet knowledge required (including content creation, programming and the related tools and technologies)
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across multiple teams and at varying levels throughout the organization
- Experience working with a content management system a plus
- Background in sports, specifically golf, is a plus
- On-air experience a plus
- This role involves travel and work on evenings and weekends
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
- Understand and deliver stories that appeal to the PGA TOUR audience while also adhering to Communications/Brand guidelines and best digital practices
- Develop story ideas on a regular basis
- Regularly contribute as talent across the TOUR’s platforms, including PGA TOUR LIVE, broadcast, video and podcasts
- Conduct research and interviews, and take part in press conferences as warranted by story assignments
- Create well-written stories in accordance with publishing deadlines and editor direction
- Develop content for use on social media platforms as warranted by storylines or editorial direction
- Develop and maintain relationships with potential sources
- Work collaboratively with other team members
- Take part in regular creative brainstorming and pitch sessions with the Digital and Storytelling teams
- Must be available for frequent travel
- Must be available during competition hours, which may include evenings and weekends
- Participate in conversations with readers and fans through social media and other channels when appropriate
- Provide support to digital producers as needed
- Adapt to changing editorial conditions in a short time frame
