Drive for Alzheimer’s: 100 Days 100 Courses powered by TeeOff by PGA TOUR.
Thursday, May 2, 2019, after playing at Champions Gate in Orlando, campaign reaches halfway point.
On Thursday, after playing at Champions Gate in Orlando, I will have reached the halfway point of 100 Days 100 Courses powered by TeeOff by PGA TOUR. It is a cross country tour playing golf at 100 different golf courses in 100 days in hopes of raising $100,000 for Alzheimer’s research and to increase awareness of the disease.
I started in Palm Springs, California, on March 14, and will travel over 10,000 miles across the country, play golf every day and raise money before reaching my final stop of Plymouth, Massachusetts on June 21, the longest day of the year.
Alzheimer’s impacts six million Americans and one-in-three seniors, and recent hardships in my own family inspired him to act. My mother-in-law died of Alzheimer’s back in July, and my mother has early stage Alzheimer’s. This disease has impacted both sides of my family.
The third hole at each course is played with a purple ball in honor of someone who either has or had the disease. The significance is that one third of all seniors dies with either Alzheimer’s or dementia. This ritual has resonated with people everywhere that I have played and constantly generates requests for future honorees.
TeeOff by PGA TOUR generously donated a foursome at each of the 100 courses during the trip, and three spots in every foursome are available to the public on the 100 Days 100 Courses website.
I would love to tell you more about the journey and what I have seen along the way.
Thanks,
Dave
