Golf, Inc. Lauds for Business Savvy, Company Explosive Growth
(VIENNA, Virginia) – Bolstered by 15 new golf-course management contracts and two acquisitions to date in 2005, Billy Casper Golf ("BCG") Chairman and CEO Peter Hill ranked sixth on Golf Inc.’s annual list of the "Most Powerful People in Golf" in the magazine’s October issue.
Hill ascended 11 spots from his # 17 ranking in 2004. This parallels BCG becoming the nation’s fifth-largest management company with 60 golf courses in 19 states and the District of Columbia. BCG has also ventured internationally with course development in Central America.
Other key figures on Golf Inc.’s list include Jack Nicklaus (# 1), Tiger Woods (# 5), PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem (# 8), Arnold Palmer (# 16) and USGA Executive Director David Fay (#17).
The magazine recognized Hill’s "shrewd leadership" and reported BGC "appears poised for even more growth."
"This honor is testament to Billy Casper Golf’s sustained expansion and success stemming from the extraordinary commitment and effort of BCG personnel," says Hill. "Our strong infrastructure has led to robust performances the past few years. This positions BCG to continue to cause its managed courses to profit, acquire additional courses and positively impact the game itself."
To manage the firm’s growth, BCG, through a sound planning and management approach, has strengthened its operations, marketing and technology divisions by adding experienced PGA, PR and MIS professionals, respectively. BCG’s industry expertise includes building management talent and operating systems, implementing cutting-edge marketing and yield-management programs and executing programs in financial management, turf maintenance, food and beverage, merchandising, staffing and training and clubhouse operations.
These practices have allowed the company to turn marginal operations into profitable ones. With a presence in every region of the country – from Massachusetts to Florida, Washington, Hawaii and in between – BCG is geographically well-situated to add to its regional clusters of courses and own and operate assets in new markets.
"The acquisition climate and the opportunities to manage additional courses is now attractive for established, highly-qualified and well-capitalized operators like Billy Casper Golf," says Hill. "In the ’90s, a record number of courses were built, many at staggering costs. A ‘perfect storm’ of oversupply, economic slow-down and flat growth in golfers hurt many owner/operators."
