TUNE IN: Cristie Kerr on NBC’s "Today"

October 25, 2005

Cristie Kerr, six-time LPGA tournament champion, will be featured on NBC’s "Today" show on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at approximately 7:30 a.m. ET. Kerr will be interviewed live by co-anchor Matt Lauer and the segment will also feature footage of Kerr from the Samsung World Championship, where she tied for fourth, and in New York while she was enjoying a week off from competition.

"Today" airs weekdays on NBC from 7-10 a.m. ET.

About Kerr

Hailed as one of the hottest new stars in women’s professional golf, and a possible challenger to Annika Sorenstam’s stranglehold on the number-one position, at age 28, Kerr has transformed her body and her game into winning shape, becoming a Rolex First-Time Winner at the 2002 Longs Drugs Challenge, adding three more victories during the 2004 season and recently notching her fifth and sixth career wins this year. As one of the LPGA Tour’s top-15 moneymakers in each of the last two seasons, her career earnings have surpassed the $5 million mark and she currently ranks third on the 2005 ADT Official Money List.

Cristie’s transformation began four years ago when back spasms and a family history of diabetes and cancer prompted her to lose weight with the help of a nutritionist and a personal trainer at the Doral Resort in Miami, Fla. By adhering to a 1,500 calorie-a-day limit of healthy food, as well as cardiovascular and weight training, she lost 50 pounds and dropped from a size 12 to a size 2 (the cover of a 2002 issue of Golf World magazine proclaimed her "The incredibly shrinking golfer"). The dramatic weight loss for Cristie not only sculpted her physique, it also improved her health, increased her energy, and more importantly renewed her confidence and lent her a fresh perspective to the game.

In 2004, Cristie founded Birdies for Breast Cancer and donates $50 for every birdie she records to the fight against breast cancer. Her mother, Linda, was diagnosed in 2003 and has since been treated and is looking for a full recovery. Cristie’s sponsors will match her donations dollar-for-dollar, and Cristie encourages fans to make pledges via her Web site, www.birdiesforbreastcancer.com.
