Sonoma, CA- The Golf Course Superintendents Association of Northern California (GCSANC) is pleased to announce its members will be distributing free ball mark repair tools at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship at Sonoma Golf Club in Sonoma, CA. The Championship is scheduled for the week of October 25-30th with ball mark distribution and instruction taking place Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the Play Golf America booth at Sonoma Golf Club.
"We won’t be just handing out ball mark repair tools, we will also be demonstrating how to properly use them," states GCSANC Vice President Gill Stiles of Santa Rosa G&CC. "When instructed properly golfers can then make repairs with ease, and ultimately improve the enjoyment of the game for themselves and others." Stiles mentioned that each ball mark repair tool distributed by the GCSANC is inserted into a small, instruction folder that features appropriate repair methods, making it handy for a golfer’s future reference.
The GCSANC’s ball mark repair program is supported by golf course superintendents throughout the region who continue to promote the awareness efforts year round. Several golf course superintendents have exhibited posters at their facilities that display the correct way to make divot repair. In addition, ball mark repair tools have been distributed to beginning golfers at clinics and classes in conjunction with Play Golf America’s grow-the-game efforts in Northern California.
"Our chapter members remain committed to helping spread the word on proper ball mark repair," explained GCSANC President Vince Keats of Napa Valley Country Club. "With new golfers coming into the game, there is no better time than now to share this important aspect of golf course etiquette." According to Keats, nearly 14,000 repair tools bearing the GCSANC logo have been distributed free to golf enthusiasts throughout Northern California.
According to industry experts, a ball mark repaired within 10 minutes often heals into a smooth surface within a few days. If it goes unrepaired, it can take a few weeks to heal, and the end result will be a less even surface.
