The UK market leader in sports spread betting, Sporting Index, is continuing to make a splash at the London Golf Show after renewing its sponsorship of the event’s unique floating green.
Last April, the specially-constructed floating green proved one of the most popular attractions at the show with more than 15,000 people trying to land the holiday to Thailand which was on offer for a hole-in-one.
With nobody landing an ace by the close of the competition the prize went to Eamonn Mullins, 46, from Welling, Kent, who won a play-off.
And then when the attraction was re-opened for public use, 13-year-old Tom Fox, from Cornwall, holed out with a pitching wedge.
Sporting Index’s head of business development, Fred Eates, confirmed the sponsorship of the floating green had proved beneficial in raising brand awareness of the London-based company.
He explained: "We normally attend sporting events such as Test matches or professional golf tournaments; attending an exhibition was a first for us. A bit of a gambleâ?¦
"We had a marketing unit adjacent to the teeing area and offered spread bets on how many people would get all three efforts on the green. Over the three days several thousand people visited us and plenty opened an account.
"From a commercial perspective we achieved well in excess of what we were aiming for initially. We were pleased to be able to renew the sponsorship for the 2006 show."
The London Golf Show’s new chairman, Colin Brunton, added: "The renewal of one of our major sponsorships is another indicator of the continued progress we are making in establishing ourselves as the premier consumer golf show in Europe.
"To attract another market leader, for the second consecutive year, is testament to the show’s commercial appeal and international standing."
The London Golf Show returns to ExCeL-London on April 27-30, covering an area the size of five football pitches, with stacks of activities, shows, demonstrations, coaching and exciting bargains. Over 300 exhibitors and thousands of visitors who want to find the best of what’s available in golf, will try out the latest equipment and apparel and take advantage of great offers at the exhibition, which will include – for the duration of the show – the largest golf shop in the UK.
