Georgia men, UCLA women grab top seeds
NORMAN, Okla. — The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA), in association with Hooters of America, Inc., have unveiled the brackets for the 2004 Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship, which will be held Nov. 11-13 at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort at Howey-in-the Hills, Fla., and will be co-hosted by the Central Florida Sports Commission. Georgia received the top seed in the men’s bracket while UCLA took the No. 1 spot in the women’s field. The men’s and women’s tournaments will be played simultaneously with the men competing on El Campeón and the women teeing off on Las Colinas. Invitation to the Match Play was based on 2005 national championship finish.
Georgia will meet in-state foe Georgia Southern in the first round of the men’s field. The winner will face the victor of the eight-nine match between Tennessee and Georgia State. Fourth-seeded Duke vs. Arizona and fifth-seeded Wake Forest against Augusta State completes the top half of the bracket. Georgia Tech – the third seed – will tee off against Missouri and play the winner of (6) Arizona State-(11) New Mexico. Seventh-seeded Kentucky squares of against Coastal Carolina. Defending Match Play champion and second-seeded Oklahoma State battles Stanford in the final first-round match.
In the women’s bracket, UCLA faces UC Irvine in the opening round and the victor will meet the eighth-seeded Washington vs. ninth-seeded Michigan State winner. Fourth-seeded Arizona State plays Missouri while Southern California squares off against Tulane. Arkansas nabbed the third seed and will tee off against Furman. Sixth-seeded Texas A&M battles Florida. The bracket is completed by matches pitting seventh-seeded Tennessee against Stanford and Purdue – the No. 2 seed – versus Oklahoma State.
