Opening scheduled for today at Rathbane Golf Course
ST. AUGUSTINE, FL – Following the October 24 announcement officially launching The First Tee of Ireland and naming Druids Glen Golf Resort as the first Affiliate Venue of the new Chapter, a second Affiliate Venue has been added.
On Thursday, October 27, Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., executive director of The First Tee, joined Philip Lynch, chairman of the Educate Through Sport Foundation, John Warren, chief executive of The First Tee of Ireland, and Liam McCabe, managing director of Mack Trading – Amenity Management, to announce the grand opening of The First Tee of Ireland’s second Affiliate Venue at Rathbane Golf Course in Limerick.
During ceremonies earlier this week, The First Tee of Ireland became the fifth international Chapter of The First Tee, joining Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Singapore. Recognized as one of the premier youth character education programs, The First Tee has opened 223 golf-learning facilities in 41 states in addition to the international locations.
"We welcome the affiliate relationship between The First Tee of Ireland and Rathbane Golf Course," said Barrow. "Their willingness to allow The First Tee participants access to their course is important to the development of the young participants of The First Tee of Ireland."
Rathbane Golf Course is managed and operated by Mack Trading – Amenity Management in partnership with Limerick City Council.
"We are delighted to become an Affiliate Venue of The First Tee of Ireland by conducting onsite programming at our facility," said McCabe. "At Rathbane we pride ourselves on our youth development policy and we are fully committed to expanding our support through The First Tee of Ireland."
"We look forward to supporting the young people of Ireland in their efforts to succeed in life," said Lynch. "Under the direction of John Warren, we will teach our participants life-enhancing values and character education through The First Tee Life Skills Experienceâ?¢."
The First Tee Life Skills Experience, which will be implemented at Rathbane by the Educate Through Sport Foundation, is the unique feature that separates The First Tee from many other youth initiatives and junior golf programs. Through this experience, participants learn valuable lessons such as: the importance of maintaining a positive attitude; how to make decisions by thinking about the possible consequences; how to define and set goals; and how to transfer the positive values of golf to everyday life.
