Provider of Tee Time Reservations and Golf Course Management Software Ranks No. 246 on the Magazine’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies List
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – November 4, 2005 – The Active Network, Inc., a technology and marketing services provider that recently launched Active Golf Solutions (www.ActiveGolfSolutions.com) and ActiveGolf.com (www.ActiveGolf.com) to enhance tee time reservations and golf course management software services to golf courses and golf facilities in the U.S. and Canada, was named to Inc. magazine’s 24th annual Inc. 500 ranking of America’s fastest-growing private companies. The company ranked No. 246 on the Inc. 500 list, with three-year average annual sales growth of 487.2 percent. This is the second consecutive year the company has earned a place on the Inc. 500 list.
"We’re honored to be recognized for our success and view this year’s ranking as much more significant. Achieving this type of momentum year after year is challenging and really a testament to the team we’ve put in place to drive the business forward," said Dave Alberga, chief executive officer, The Active Network, Inc. "Our specialized technology services have helped us build a large base of satisfied customers across multiple community-focused markets and our leadership in the active lifestyle community has enabled us to deliver marketers unprecedented access to active consumers. This success would not be possible without an enthusiastic, talented team and investor group."
This year, Inc. 500 companies posted aggregate 2004 revenue of $15.9 billion, and 84 percent were profitable, including The Active Network. The Inc. 500 companies were also engines of job growth; having created more than 95,000 jobs since the companies were founded. The Active Network also contributed to this, increasing its employee base more than 250 percent since December 2003.
The company’s Inc. ranking follows several recent awards. These awards include the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 and Deloitte Technology Fast 50, rankings of North American technology companies per revenue growth, and the PROMO 100, a ranking of the top U.S. promotions agencies.
This year also marked a significant acquisition for The Active Network. In September, the company acquired Morristown, N.J.-based Tee Time King, Inc. (www.teetimeking.com), a leading provider of online tee time
reservations and golf course management software. The acquisition enables the company to leverage and integrate Tee Time King’s established golf course management software base and leading consumer golf portal with its own systems and consumer communities to bring new opportunities to golf course operators, golf tournament and event directors, and golfers. By integrating its transaction-based registration, data management and charitable giving infrastructure with Tee Time King’s product platform, The Active Network can now offer golf operators one complete suite of services to automate daily operations, manage and track player and member data, market their facilities, and offer fundraising events and tournaments. The services are now delivered through Active Golf Solutions (www.ActiveGolfSolutions.com) and include course management software to automate golf administration; online event management tools for golf tournament and event directors; and marketing services to promote tee times and courses for golf operators. Active Golf Solutions also offers a complete Web resource for golfers, www.ActiveGolf.com, that includes online tee time reservations, online event listings, course directory and other golf content.
The Inc. 500 ranks privately-held companies according to year-over-year sales growth from 2001 to 2004. To be eligible for this year’s Inc. 500, companies had to be U.S.-based, independent and privately held through their fiscal year 2004, and have had at least $500,000 in net sales in the base year of 2001. In addition, their 2004 sales had to exceed 2003 sales. Companies are ranked on cumulative three-year sales growth from 2001 to 2004. Inc. verifies all information using tax forms and audited financial statements from certified public accountants and by conducting interviews with company officials.
Inc. is the only business magazine dedicated exclusively to owners and managers of growing private companies. The Inc. 500 can be found in the November issue, available on newsstands November 1.
