PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Three new members of The PGA of America’s Board of Directors were sworn in Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at The Association’s 89th Annual Meeting at the Hyatt Regency in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Bob Doyle, of Brighton, Colo., Joe O’Shaughnessy, of Lockport, N.Y., and Michael Zinni, of Mankato, Minn., will each serve three-year terms.
The PGA Board of Directors is composed of the Association’s President, Vice President, Secretary, Honorary President and 17 Directors. The Directors include representatives from each of The PGA’s 14 Districts, two Independent Directors and a member of the PGA Tour. New District Directors are elected by their local PGA Sections.
Doyle, a PGA Master Professional certified in general management, is a 1979 graduate of Regis University in Denver. He was elected to PGA membership in 1981, and is general manager of Riverdale Golf Courses in Brighton, Colo. He also is Owner/President of Professional Recreation Management Inc. He succeeds Doug Vilven, of Salt Lake City, as District 9 Director for the Colorado, Rocky Mountain and Utah PGA Sections.
From 1994-2002, Doyle served as an Officer in the Colorado PGA Section, and was Section President from 1999-2000. During that time, he guided several initiatives and programs including the Colorado PGA Foundation and helped secure a long-term office home site arrangement that ensured Section financial security. He was a Colorado PGA Foundation Board member from 1997-2003. Since 2001, he has served as a member of the Specialty Certification faculty.
Doyle began his professional golf career as an assistant professional at Flatirons Golf Course in Boulder, Colo., and was named PGA Head Professional in 1981, at Rifle (Colo.) Creek Golf Course. In 1985, he assumed multiple roles, serving as general manager of Riverdale Golf Courses and owner/president of Professional Recreation Management Inc.
Joe O’ Shaughnessy, who succeeds Jim Antkiewicz, of Nevillewood, Pa., as District 4 Director for the Central New York, Tri-State and Western New York Sections, was elected to membership in 1975. Since 1991, he has served as owner, operator and PGA Head Professional at Oak Run Golf Club in Lockport, N.Y.
A 1972 graduate of Bowling Green (Ohio) University, O’Shaughnessy is President of the Western New York PGA Section. He has more than 20 years of PGA Section leadership. He began his professional career in 1973, as an assistant professional at Niagara Frontier Country Club in Youngstown, N.Y. In 1974, O’Shaughnessy was appointed as PGA Head Professional at Lockport (N.Y.) Town and Country Club. In 1977, he became director of golf operations at Niagara Country Club in Lockport. O’Shaughnessy remained in that position until 1991, when he became owner and operator of Oak Run Golf Club.
In 1986, O’Shaughnessy was named the Western New York PGA Merchandiser of the Year. In addition, he is a two-time Section Horton Smith Award winner (1998-99), and was named the 2001 Section Golf Professional of the Year.
Michael Zinni, a PGA member since 1978, is the PGA Head Professional at Mankato (Minn.) Golf Club, a position he has held for the past 19 years. Zinni succeeds Jeff Porter of Omaha, Neb., as District 8 Director for the Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska PGA Sections.
Zinni served as a member of the PGA Board of Directors from 1997-1999, and was Section president from 1995-1996. He was the winner of the 1990 Section Merchandiser of the Year Award for private facilities; and was the 1995 Section Golf Professional of the Year and five-time winner of the Minnesota Section Senior Club Professional Player of the Year.
One of the most successful players in the Minnesota PGA Section, Zinni finished third in the 2002 Toshiba Senior Classic, which was just his eleventh start in a Champions Tour event. Zinni owns four Top-10 finishes in the Callaway Golf PGA Senior Club Professional Championship.
