PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — On the strength of a win in the Chrysler Championship and a runner-up finish in the Southern Farm Bureau Classic, Carl Pettersson of Sweden has won the PGA TOUR’s Fall Finish presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers. He was presented with the award today at the PGA Tour’s Southern Farm Bureau Classic in Madison, MS. With the Fall Finish title, Pettersson will receive a bonus of $500,000.
Now in its sixth year, the Fall Finish Presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers is an 11-tournament series (that began at the Deutsche Bank Championship and ended with the conclusion of THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola) that includes enhanced purses and bonus awards totaling $1 million. Points are awarded for each top-10 finish, from 100 points for first place to 10 for 10th. Vijay Singh won the title three consecutive years from 2002-2004; Bob Estes won the series in 2001 while Tiger Woods won in 2000.
Pettersson led the series with 201.250 points accumulated in the eight Fall Finish presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers events he played, to clinch the $500,000 first-place bonus. Olin Browne finished in second with 170.000 points while Tiger Woods finished in third with 170.000 points. Browne finished ahead of Woods by virtue of playing in more Fall Finish presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers events. Browne earned $300,000 and Woods earned $200,000.
"I would just like to thank PricewaterhouseCoopers for a great Fall Finish. I certainly enjoyed it," said Pettersson. "I had a fantastic finish to the year after a rough start. I was really quite please with my play from the Deutsche Bank Championship through the Southern Farm Bureau Classic. For some reason, the past two seasons, I have played my best golf on the PGA TOUR in the fall."
In eight starts, Pettersson won $1,693,456 of his $1,993,851 (84.93%). During that stretch he posted 28 of 32 rounds at par or better, including 22 in the 60s. In addition to his win and runner-up finish over the last two weeks of the season, he began the Fall Finish presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers with a tie for fourth at the Deutsche Bank Championship.
"The PGA TOUR and it’s players share with the PricewaterhouseCoopers the values of integrity and fair play and we are proud to sponsor the Fall Finish," said Dean Kern, U.S. Markets Leader for PricewaterhouseCoopers. This is our sixth year sponsoring the award and it was probably the most exciting and competitive race yet. It came down to the final week with a number of terrific golfers vying for the honor. We are very pleased to present Carl with the Fall Finish title. "
"This is Carl Pettersson’s first Fall Finish title and to win it in this very competitive year is, indeed, an impressive achievement. We welcome Carl to the outstanding roster of Fall Finish winners."
