Events to be Held Nationwide in 2006
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – The PGA of America has committed to expanding its successful Play Golf America Days program across the country in 2006 by offering all 41 PGA Sections the opportunity to host one of these consumer golf festivals. Geared towards showcasing the game of golf in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, Play Golf America Days are presented by The PGA of America and PGA Magazine. To date, more than 30 PGA Sections have committed to hosting a Play Golf America Day in 2006.
In 2005, Play Golf America Days were held at 12 facilities with more than 7,500 consumer attendees. At these events, golfers of all ages and skill levels received complimentary group and individual instruction, including First Swing Clinics for new golfers, from more than 400 PGA Professional volunteers. Play Golf America Days also offered contests, entertainment and hands-on equipment demonstrations from leading manufacturers.
"We first launched this concept in 2004 with a pilot program in three markets before expanding to 12 events last year and the response from consumers, PGA Professionals, facilities and manufacturers has been overwhelmingly positive," said Roger Warren, president of the PGA of America. "The purpose of Play Golf America is to connect consumers with local programs designed to increase their enjoyment of the game. Play Golf America Days accomplish this and we are proud that our PGA Professionals continue to show their commitment and passion for growing the game."
In addition to providing consumers with the opportunity to experience golf in a festival type of setting, Play Golf America Days provide tremendous exposure for the Play Golf America programs hosted by golf facilities in those markets as well as the www.playgolfamerica.com web site.
"Our ultimate goal is to get consumers, whether they are able to attend the Play Golf America Day in their market or not, involved in a player development program such as Link Up 2 Golf, PGA First Swing or Play Golf America Leagues," added Warren. "These events showcase what makes golf so special. They are fun, family-friendly and a great way to spend an afternoon outside."
The complete list of 2006 Play Golf America Days, including dates and locations, will be announced at the PGA Merchandise Show in January. These events will also be featured on www.playgolfamerica.com.
The web site, www.playgolfamerica.com, is an industry-sponsored web site developed by The PGA of America. It serves as a link for consumers to access affordable player development programs in their local markets that are of interest to them. Programs on the site target the adult population of various segments, including families, couples, women and business professionals. The site is constantly updated with new programs being offered by PGA Professionals and LPGA teaching professionals in markets across America.
Celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2006, The PGA of America was founded in 1916, and is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the game of golf, while continuing to enhance the standards of the profession. The Association is comprised of more than 28,000 men and women PGA Professionals who are dedicated to growing participation in the game of golf.
