Northern California Resort Continues Impressive Run in National Rankings
(COPPEROPOLIS, California) – Saddle Creek Resort – a gated, 900-acre Castle & Cooke community in the scenic California Foothills – has been named to Golfweek’s prestigious list of "America’s Best Residential Golf Courses" for 2006.
In ranking Saddle Creek No. 40 on this top-100 listing, Golfweek heralded the course’s relationship to the overall community plan, the variety, conditioning and playability of the layout, and "how pleasing and interesting the course is as an experience." Saddle Creek’s place on the list puts it ahead of esteemed residential courses such as Black Diamond Ranch, Troon North, TPC at Sugarloaf and others.
The residential ratings are derived directly from Golfweek’s annual list of America’s Best Courses, published each March since 1997. America’s Best Golf Courses are ranked by more than 350 raters throughout the country, who judge on the basis of 10 evaluation criteria. Rankings are calculated using a statistically rigorous process.
"Saddle Creek’s golf, residential, and lifestyle components are truly unique, and to be recognized by Golfweek is an honor for our residents and members," says Al Martell, Vice President of Golf Properties for Castle & Cooke. "Guests of the resort can also take pride in knowing they are partaking in one of the nation’s best golf experiences."
Designed by Carter Morrish, Saddle Creek’s award-winning golf course is framed by the Sierra Mountains and challenges players of all levels with five sets of tees, nearly 100 bunkers and an ethereal collection of shimmering lakes. To create an atmosphere of tranquility and isolation, Morrish devised a routing in which no two holes run parallel to each other. Saddle Creek’s thoughtful design and sublime conditioning have led to numerous national accolades.
For the second consecutive year, Saddle Creek ranked among the Top-10 courses in California in Golfweek’s "America’s Best Courses 2005" ratings, appearing at No. 8 on the prestigious list and moving past the famed South Course at Torrey Pines – site of the 2008 U.S. Open Championship.
In its December 2004 issue, Fairways and Greens magazine rated the course one of the top golf resorts in the Western U.S., citing its exquisite course conditions, top quality service, meticulous attention to detail, high-end residential opportunities and comfortable and convenient bungalows. Saddle Creek was also ranked as one of the top four semi-private courses in Northern California by Golf Today. Most recently, the course was included in the 2006/07 ZAGAT listing of "America’s Top Golf Courses."
