Popular Event at Poipu Bay Golf Course in Kaua’i, Hawaii (Nov. 22-23) Features Tiger Woods, Michael Campbell, Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh
(KAUA’I, Hawaii) – The Kaua’i Visitors Bureau today announces that the 2005 PGA Grand Slam of Golf – to be held tomorrow and Wednesday, Nov. 22-23 in Kaua’i at Poipu Bay Golf Course and Grand Hyatt Kaua’i Resort & Spa – will receive extensive broadcast coverage on Turner Network Television (TNT).
The 2005 PGA Grand Slam of Golf brings together the winners of the year’s four major championships. This year’s foursome includes Masters and British Open Champion Tiger Woods, U.S. Open Champion Michael Campbell, PGA Champion Phil Mickelson and three-time major champion Vijay Singh. The two-day, 36-hole event features a total purse of $1 million and a champion’s first prize of $400,000.
The 2005 tournament marks the 23rd anniversary of the event, and the 12th consecutive year of being held at Poipu Bay Golf Course. Poipu Bay is a member of the island’s 135-hole golf destination group "Kaua’i: Discover Golf’s Ultimate Island Green", which includes Princeville, Kaua’i Lagoons, Kiahuna and Puakea. Boasting dramatic, elevated holes overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Poipu Bay promises to provide yet another compelling chapter in the lustrous event.
Mickelson holds the Poipu Bay course record at 13-under-par 59, which he scored in last year’s PGA Grand Slam of Golf event.
"We are excited at the prospect of welcoming back Mr. Woods Mr. Mickelson and Mr. Singh, and we are thrilled to introduce Mr. Campbell to the island of Kaua’i and Poipu Bay," says Sue Kanoho, Executive Director of the Kaua’i Visitors Bureau. "Having the world’s best golfers at one or our world-class golf resorts and on Turner Network Television helps us showcase Kaua’i to prospective visitors."
TNT will provide live event coverage tomorrow from 7 – 10 p.m. ET, and Wed., Nov. 23 from 6 – 10 p.m. ET.
Leading up to TNT’s tournament coverage, the Golf Channel will air several features highlighting golf’s premier foursome, including the Grand Slam Champions Clinic. The Champions Clinic will air exclusively on the Golf Channel on Mon., Nov. 21 at 10:00 p.m. ET. The network will also broadcast 30-minute post-major championship specials with PGA Grand Slam of Golf participants Woods and Campbell and will rebroadcast three of the most memorable final rounds in event history: Mickelson’s 59 in 2004; Woods’ 61 in 2002, and the 2000 playoff between Woods and Singh.
