Tom Sherreard, the current England boy captain, has been selected to represent the EGU in the prestigious 42nd Junior Orange Bowl International Championship at Biltmore Golf Club at Coral Gables, Florida on 27th-30th December.
The 18 year old from Kent is a blossoming talent and has enjoyed a successful 2005.
Victory in the McEvoy Trophy at Copt Heath was followed by selection for the World Boys Team Championships in Japan, where England finished third, and for the European Boys Team Championships in Italy. Back home, Sherreard finished runner-up in the individual standings in the South East Boys Qualifying at Bedford and ninth in the Carris Trophy at Moor Park.
As England captain, he led his side to a successful defence of the Boys Home Internationals at Woodhall Spa and then represented GB&I against the Continent of Europe in the Jacques Leglise Trophy at Royal Porthcawl.
A few years ago, he was one of the first to emerge from the restructured Kent coaching set-up and was a member of his county’s side that finished runners-up to Yorkshire in the 2002 Boys County Finals. He finished runner-up in the South of England Schools Championship in 2003 and was capped that year at under 16 level against Scotland and the England Girls under 18 team.
It was second place again when Sherreard represented Kent in the 2003 Boys County Finals at Copthorne, before he achieved another runner-up spot, in the British Boys Championship at Conwy last year.
A member of the Chart Hills club, he was recently named in the England under 21 training squad for 2005/06.
The Orange Bowl is a premier under-18 event in the United States and has separate boys and girls tournaments. Nick Dougherty and Daniel Wardrop represented England in 2000, Steven Lewton competed in 2001, Matthew Richardson and Michael Skelton played in 2002, Daniel Denison in 2003 and John Parry last year.
