BEAVERTON, Ore. (November 28, 2005) – The Biggest Footprint in Golf, Nike Golf’s SasQuatch Driver, continues to make its distinctive mark across the globe by helping to guide many of the best players in the world to victory as evidenced by last week’s triumph by Nike Golf tour staff member, Paul Casey at the Volvo China Open in Shenzhen, China. It was his fifth European Tour title, his second win in China this year and his first with the SasQuatch Tour Driver. The SasQuatch Driver, which has been in stores since November 1, already has five worldwide victories, including two on the PGA Tour and three internationally.
Since joining Nike Golf’s tour staff in January of this year, Casey has won two events, both of which he claimed in a sudden-death playoff in China. His performance propelled him back into the top 50 in the World Rankings and moved him to second on the 2006 Order of Merit.
Casey played a nearly perfect final round of golf by stringing together birdies at the third, fourth, sixth, eighth, 11th, 12th and 17th holes en route to his 65. Casey took advantage of the SasQuatch’s radical geometry, substantiated by his accurate and prodigious drives averaging approximately 300 yards.
To assist in distance and control around the greens, Casey used the Nike One Platinum ball, which features a Progressive Density Core with a soft center and a progressively harder outer shell. This provides lower spin off the tee even with its soft outer cover. The Nike One Platinum is comprised of three layers or covers beyond the core. The inner cover is designed to reduce spin off the driver; the middle cover provides superior mid-iron control; and the outer cover, promotes incredible feel around the green. Evidence of the continued success of Nike Golf’s One Platinum is the 11 victories on the PGA Tour and six internationally.
Using Nike blades, Casey consistently attacked pins with accurate and controlled iron shots, which led him to the birdie opportunities that he needed. Completing Casey’s winning arsenal is Nike Golf’s Ignite T-60 3-wood, 53 and 58-degree wedges, Nike Golf’s SP-6 Footwear and a Dri-FIT Tour Glove.
