NORTH HOLLYWOOD, November 29 — Tom Morgan, executive director of the Southern California Golf Association, has been elected president of the International Association of Golf Administrators, the world’s largest association of amateur golf executives. The election took place at the IAGA’s annual meeting in Sandestin Beach, Fla.
Morgan will guide the IAGA’s activities for the upcoming year, culminating in the IAGA annual conference to be held Nov. 4-8, 2006 in San Diego. Other executive directors elected as officers were Vice-President Kris Jonasson of British Columbia GA; Secretary Jack Nance, Carolinas GA; Treasurer Robert Markionni, Chicago District GA; and board members Jim Demick, Florida State GA and Robin Elbardawil, Colorado Women’s Golf Association.
Morgan, 65, has been the SCGA’s executive director since 1993, and oversees all activities for one of the nation’s oldest and largest state or regional golf associations. Founded in 1899, the SCGA currently has more than 160,000 members in more than 1,100 clubs throughout Southern California and Baja California.
When Morgan was named SCGA executive director, he returned to the association after a 10-year absence. He first joined the SCGA in 1973 and left 10 years later to become executive director of the Century Club in San Diego, which annually presents the PGA Tour stop at Torrey Pines Golf Course now known as the Buick Invitational of California.
Prior to joining the SCGA, Morgan was assistant athletic director and business manager at UC Santa Barbara, then administrative assistant for the Southern Section of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).
In addition to his IAGA responsibilities, Morgan also serves as a member of the United States Golf Association’s Regional Associations and Bob Jones Award committees. He is on the advisory boards for the Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment Commission, golf advisory boards for the City and County of Los Angeles, the Southern California Section of the PGA, and the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce Urban Youth Golf program.
