MALVERN, Pa. — (December 2, 2005) – In only its second year, the Divine 9 Open Celebrity Pro-Am Team Golf Championship and Cocktail Party announced a record contribution to the charity it supports, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The tournament committee, chaired by Jeff Dittus and Stephanie Langer, presented a check for $160,000 to the society in a ceremony at White Manor Country Club.
White Manor, the classic Chester County layout that was recently re-designed by acclaimed architect Bobby Weed, has been the host site for each of the two Divine 9 tournaments. This year’s golf event was made more challenging by torrential rains and unusually cold winds on the May 20th date, but most of the golfers that were scheduled to play in the afternoon returned for the June 21st rain date. The cocktail party, silent auction and awards presentation was attended by a big crowd, with loads of fun had by all. Ironically, tournament play was halted briefly by a thunderstorm on the rain date, but the event ultimately finished with the sun shining.
"We have to thank all of the players and party attendees for their patience and support this year," said Dittus, whose late father, Mort, was the inspiration for creating the tournament. "Luckily, we have a great tournament format on a great course, with great sponsors and social activities that keep people coming back."
Plans are already under way for the 2006 tournament. "We took a big step forward this year, despite Mother Nature!" said Langer. "We have big plans for growing the May 19, 2006 event."
