AJGA to provide improved live scoring due to FootJoy’s support
BRASELTON, Ga. — FootJoy, an Official Partner of the American Junior Golf Association, will sponsor Live Scoring at AJGA Invitationals beginning in 2006, the AJGA announced Monday.
"We are excited about the sponsorship of Live Scoring at the AJGA’s Invitational events," said Andy Jones, FootJoy vice president of marketing & apparel. "The AJGA’s dedication to growing the game and FootJoy’s goal of aligning itself with elite players at every level of the game will make this a mutually beneficial partnership."
In 2002, the AJGA added a special touch to select major championships — live scoring. The purpose of live scoring is to bring AJGA parents, friends, supporters and college coaching members as close to the tournament action as possible without being at the event. Anyone can follow the action at an AJGA invitational online at ajga.org. In 2006, there will be FootJoy Live Scoring at nine invitationals. Page views are estimated to reach 1.8 million people and attract viewers from more than 77 countries.
The sponsorship will enable the AJGA to upgrade the on-site technology used in live scoring and make it the most comprehensive live scoring golf site. Volunteers who input the hole-by-hole scores will have hand-held devices that will upload scores instantly to the FootJoy Live Scoring Web site using a wireless network.
"The AJGA is very excited about our new partnership with FootJoy," said Jason Etzen, AJGA executive vice president for development. "FootJoy Live Scoring will be the best live scoring in amateur golf."
FootJoy, "The Official Footwear of the AJGA" and the leading manufacturer of golf shoes, gloves, outerwear and socks, provides the AJGA with footwear and weather gear. FootJoy also serves as the title sponsor of the FootJoy Boys Invitational at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA, the largest Association of its kind, has a junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 50 states and 30 foreign countries.
Titleist, the AJGA’s National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association’s success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which enters its third decade of support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004.
AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 200 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 300 wins.
