Mitchell® Golf Equipment Institute, located at Orange County National Golf Center, Orlando, Florida completed its 2006 school schedule by graduating a class of PGA Golf Professionals as certified Club Repair Technicians. The fact that this class enrollment was all PGA members and apprentices represents a growing trend among golf professionals wanting to enhance their club performance and repair skills. They recognize the need to offer club repair to improve their member’s enjoyment of playing golf and they want to create a new profit center for their operation.
Mitchell® Club Repair Technician Schools include instruction and hands-on experience in re-shafting, re-gripping and measuring & bending golf club angles. Students attend an extensive 3-day class related to all types of club repair. Classes include detailed lectures concerning club specifications and performance, followed by hands on experience in Mitchell® Golf’s state of the art club repair lab. Each attendee learns repair techniques necessary for today’s modern golf club designs including frequency matching golf shafts.
Golf Professionals graduating from the November 28 School include Eric Eshleman, David Bromley & Steven Deitch, The Country Club of Birmingham, Birmingham, AL; Michael Martin, Oak Lane Country Club, Woodbridge, CT and Gene Powell, PGA Learning Center, Port Saint Lucie, FL.
Mitchell® Golf Equipment Institute is owned, managed and conducted by PGA members whose goals are to help fellow golf professionals realize the importance of golf club performance. Repairing and fitting modern golf clubs is as simple as re-shafting, adjusting loft/lie/face angles, and re-gripping.
"Having the knowledge to help golfers with golf club performance is required of today’s golf professionals" states Paul Bessler, school instructor and PGA Golf Professional. "We teach the skills golf professionals need to enhance their role as an instructor, retailer and expert on club performance."
Mitchell® Golf Equipment Institute also conducts two other schools, Club Performance Fitting and True Temper® "Gold Certified". The Club Performance Fitting School is conducted on the world-renown 42-acre range at Orange County National Golf Center. The Club Performance Fitting Specialist curriculum begins with a study of how head, shaft and grip designs influence ball flight. Students work with Zelocity PureLaunch and Vector launch monitors.
The new True Temper "Gold Certified" Shaft Performance Fitting School offers an all-encompassing education on the manufacturing and testing philosophy of the "gold" family of shafts. Emphasis is placed on learning the intricacies of frequency tuning the new Black Gold® shaft and building clubs with standard, mid, and variable tip flexes for varying launch trajectories. Hard and soft stepping is taught to create different flex variations.
