Far Hills, N.J. – Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., home to the 2001 U.S. Open, has been selected as the site of the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship, the United States Golf Association has announced. The Championship is scheduled from Aug. 23-29.

Southern Hills has hosted eight previous USGA championships, including three U.S. Opens. Retief Goosen won the Open in an 18-hole playoff over Mark Brooks in 2001. Tommy Bolt won the 1958 Open at Southern Hills and Hubert Green was the Open winner there in 1977.

"We are pleased that Southern Hills has been chosen to host the 2010 Amateur Championship," said Al Bush, Club president. "This continues the Club’s long-standing tradition of hosting major golf championships. We are looking forward to having the best amateurs play at Southern Hills."

Designed by Perry Maxwell, Southern Hills opened in 1936. The U.S. Women’s Amateur was the first USGA championship played at Southern Hills, in 1946. The U.S. Junior Amateur came in 1953, followed by the USGA Senior Amateur in 1961, the U.S. Amateur in 1965 and the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur in 1987.

Bob Murphy won the Amateur played at Southern Hills, in an all-stroke-play format (72 holes), by a single stroke over Robert Dickson, 291-292.

Prior to 2010, the U.S. Amateur will be played from Aug. 21-27, 2006, at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.; from Aug. 20-26, 2007, at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif.; from Aug. 18-24, 2008, at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C., and from Aug. 24-30, 2009 at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.
