The Scottish Golf Tourism industry held its annual awards ceremony at the Westin Turnberry Resort on the west coast of Scotland and Mark Rigg, Managing Director of Links Golf St Andrews, was delighted to accept the award for Golf Tour Operator of the Year 2005.
The awards ceremony was hosted by television presenter Dougie Donnelly and brought together an impressive array of representatives from the Scottish Golf Tourism industry culminating in a celebration of all that is positive about Scottish Golf Tourism.
Mark Rigg was presented with the award by Olympic Sprint Champion Allan Wells, and was clearly delighted at the award. "My team and I are both honoured and proud to have won one of the most sought after awards within the Scottish Golf Travel industry. At Links Golf St Andrews we’re committed to providing our golfing visitors with the highest levels of service from enquiry to departure. We’re delighted not only to receive this award on our own behalf but also on behalf of all of our industry partners – golf clubs, hotels, travel operators, caddie masters – without whom the experience just would not be possible. We are particularly delighted to receive this award from our peers which makes it all the more cherished."
The awards are voted on by the golf tourism industry themselves and awarded to hotels, golf courses, transport providers, caddie masters and tour operators.
Golf Course of the Year was won for the first time by Royal Dornoch Golf Club with Westin Turnberry winning the Resort Hotel category. Other Hotel of the Year awards went to Greywalls Hotel (Country House) and The Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa (Large Hotel) and The Inn at Lathones in Fife (Small Hotel). Other awards on the evening went to Kenny McLeod, Caddiemaster at Kingsbarns; Woods Car Rental and Carnoustie Golf Links for their Secretariat team.
