Pamela Swensen assumes executive director position on interim basis
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., Dec. 8, 2005 … Sara Hume, executive director of the Executive Women’s Golf Association for the past six years, has resigned effective December 31, 2005, to pursue other opportunities and to broaden the scope of her leadership experience. Hume will work with the association to assure a smooth transition.
"Sara has been an influential leader of our Association since taking the helm in 1999. Her dedication, passion and contributions to the EWGA have taken the Association to where it is today," said Penny Hulbert, president of the EWGA Board of Directors. "Association membership has increased by 50 percent and we now have a network of over 18,000 members in more than 116 chapters in the U.S. and Canada."
"Over the past six years, it has been my honor and my privilege to serve as the Executive Director of the EWGA. Working with the EWGA Board of Directors, a great staff, dedicated and talented volunteer leaders and members, and supportive golf industry and corporate partners, thousands of women have been introduced to the game of golf and thousands more have improved their game and enjoyed countless opportunities to play more golf. I have no doubt that the EWGA will continue to be the premier force for promoting women’s golf."
Hume will be replaced on an interim basis by Pamela Swensen, the EWGA’s vice president of sales and marketing.
Hulbert said the association would immediately embark on a national search for a permanent executive director and that Swensen, who has been with the EWGA since February 2002, would run the organization for the foreseeable future.
"We have the utmost confidence in Pam’s ability to manage the association during this transition period," said Hulbert. "She will be supported by the board of directors, seasoned staff and more than 1500 volunteer leaders throughout the country."
The EWGA’s board of directors is comprised of four officers, two at large directors, four U.S. representatives and one Canadian member; based on geography and equitable distribution of members, and appointees from the LPGA, PGA of America and USGA. Other representation comes from the corporate and communication sectors. The Association has also confirmed its commitment to increasing the diversity of its membership by adding diversity at the highest leadership level.
Swensen boasts more than 18 years of experience in the golf industry in the areas of advertising, corporate communications, sales promotion, business development and event management. Prior to joining the EWGA, she was vice president of The Jane Blalock Company in Boston. She earned a master’s degree from Boston University.
The Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1991 whose mission is to provide opportunities to learn, play, and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life.
