PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The PGA TOUR Tournaments Association (PGATTA), the trade association of PGA TOUR tournament directors and key volunteers, recognized the charitable endeavors of member tournaments and announced its 2006 Board of Directors at its recent Annual Meeting at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida.
In addition, it celebrated One Billion Dollars in charitable giving by PGATTA tournaments and the PGA TOUR.
One of the PGATTA’s key missions is to promote charitable giving within the communities where member tournaments are held. For the sixth consecutive year the association recognized the EDS Byron Nelson Championship as the recipient of the PGATTA Benefactor Award, which acknowledges the member tournament that donates the largest amount to charity. The EDS Byron Nelson Championship will contribute $6,060,000 in proceeds from the 2005 tournament to the Salesmanship Youth and Family Centers, a nonprofit organization dedicated for more than 80 years to enriching the quality of life for children and their families.
The association also recognizes the tournament whose charitable giving has increased the most from the previous year. The 2005 recipient was the 84 LUMBER Classic, which increased their charity donation by 138%, raising $1.5 Million for local Pittsburgh-area charities, and more than $930,000 for Hurricane Katrina Relief.
The 2006 Board of Directors was also nominated at the meeting. The three Board positions available for nomination were filled by the following directors: Ted May, past Chairman of the Buick Championship, Ollie Nutt, Executive Vice President of the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, organizers of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, and Steve Timms, President and CEO of the Houston Golf Association, operators of the Shell Houston Open.
Kym Hougham, Tournament Director of the Wachovia Championship in Charlotte, was nominated for a two-year term as President. "I look forward to cultivating the existing lines of communication between the PGATTA with the PGA TOUR and its constituents," Hougham said. "The PGATTA leadership and membership looks forward to the continuation of our mission of promoting charities within our communities and to reaching the next billion dollars in charitable giving."
