Troy Matteson Banks on Heavy Putter to Win Nationwide Tour Money Title and Automatic PGA Tour Card

Jumps from 110th to 8th in Putting Average; Sets Single-Season Earnings Record

(RIDGEFIELD, Connecticut) – Troy Matteson relied on his Heavy Putter — which weighs 90 percent more than conventional putters and is precisely counterbalanced for control — to compile a long list of achievements during the 2005 Nationwide TOUR’s season, including two victories, the No. 1 spot on the money list and an automatic PGA TOUR card for 2006.

Given the correlation between putting prowess and TOUR success, it should come as no surprise that Matteson had the breakthrough year he did with the Heavy Putter. He shot from 110th to 8th in putting on the Nationwide Tour since switching to the Heavy Putter in 2004. While using his Heavy Putter A1 model, Matteson earned 12 top-10 finishes — three more than any other player — and broke the Nationwide TOUR’s single-season earnings record with $495,009.

In other key categories related to putting, Matteson’s finished the year:

  • 1st in Total birdies
  • 1st in Scoring average before the cut
  • 2nd in Total eagles
  • 3rd in Scoring average
  • 4th in Birdie average
  • 4th in Below par rounds

Upon adding the Heavy Putter to his bag, Matteson said, "I started putting with one and thought, man, this thing is awesome. The biggest thing anyone who tries the Heavy Putter will find is that it improves your speed. And any time you can improve your speed, you’re going to make more putts."

Matteson’s hot streak began in April at the Virginia Beach Open where he earned his first TOUR victory. He followed up the win with back-to-back runner-up finishes, a slew of top-10s and his second victory at the Mark Christopher Charity Classic in August. It was after this victory that Matteson and his Heavy Putter took charge of the Nationwide TOUR’s Money Leaders list for good.

"We are proud to have helped Troy Matteson break through on the Nationwide TOUR and earn his PGA TOUR card," said Stephen Boccieri, inventor of the Heavy Putter. "His performance perfectly sums up what tens of thousands of golfers have discovered: using the Heavy Putter means fewer putts per round. Fewer putts mean better scores."

Patented Heavy Putter heads weigh between 450 and 550 grams. Conventional putter heads weigh roughly 330 to 350 grams. The truly innovative technology results in not only a heavier putter, but more important, represents a complete paradigm shift in the world of golf technology.

With the heavier head weight and the weight management system (WMS) in the butt end of the shaft, the balance point of the Heavy Putter is 75% higher up the shaft to allow for better control of the putter during the stroke. A low balance point exacerbates the putter head’s release causing wrist breakdown through impact, making the putter head uncontrollable and causing putts to go off line.

The Heavy Putter WMS keeps the golfer’s wrists from breaking down throughout the stroke, and therefore keeps putts on their intended line more consistently. The heavier weight and perfect balance point of the Heavy Putter allows the golfer to disengage the small muscles in the hands while engaging the larger upper body muscles, resulting in a better and more consistent putting stroke. The head design has created one of the most forgiving, high moment-of-inertia putters on the market.

    More About Heavy Putter

The Heavy Putter represents a radical shift in putter concept, design and technology, and is touted by professional golfers, industry executives and media as the first new putter in decades that can revolutionize golf. They liken it to the paradigm shift that occurred with the advent of electric golf carts, metal woods, graphite tennis rackets and parabolic skis – innovations that changed how a sport is played.

Heavy Putter, L.L.C., based in Ridgefield, Conn., also incorporates the highest-quality, advanced-design principles in putters:

  • Made with 303 Stainless Steel, a very soft metal that creates a soft putting feel
  • Perimeter heel-to-toe weighting, creating a high Moment of Inertia (resistance to twisting) producing straighter, more accurate putts that reach the hole
  • Face-balanced heads that square themselves at impact
  • Diamond-cut, patterned faces that optimize the golf ball’s roll and impart a soft feel at impact
  • ‘Surround Sight’ semi-circle alignment aids — exclusive to the Heavy Putter — located behind the face promote on-center hits and a tighter deviation of sweet spot impact versus lines or dots

    Heavy Putter models include:

  • A1 – blade-style head with a center-mounted shaft
  • A2 – blade-style head with a heel-mounted, full-offset plumber’s neck hosel
  • A3 – blade-style head with a heel-mounted, double-bend shaft
  • B1 – mallet-style head with a center-mounted shaft
  • B2 – mallet-style head with a heel-mounted, full-offset plumber’s neck hosel
  • B3 – mallet-style head with a heel-mounted, double-bend shaft

Various standard, mid and long-putter lengths are available for men and women in both right- and left-handed models. MSRP is from $259. Contact: 888-PUTTER4, info@heavyputter.com , www.heavyputter.com .
