Partnership Expected to Help Increase Participation in 2006 Palmetto High School Golf Championships
December 14, 2005, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday announced today that the Palmetto High School Golf Championships will partner with the National High School Golf Coaches Association (NHSGCA) for the ninth annual spring season championship, to be held April 11-13, 2006 and the second annual fall season championship, to be held September 15-16, 2006, on 11 of the Grand Strand’s premiere courses. The NHSGCA is the only national association for high school golf coaches and with the partnership; the Palmetto High School Golf Championships will reach high school golf coaches across the country seeking tournaments for their teams.
College-style events open to any high school team in the United States, the Palmetto High School Golf Championships provide golf teams with the opportunity to tune-up prior to conference, sectional and state tournaments. The Palmetto’s unique qualifying method ensures teams of all skill levels enjoy a competitive experience during the multi day events. Medals are awarded to top finishing teams and individuals in each flight. In addition, the Palmetto also features a two-person coaches’ tournament.
"We are very excited to join forces with the NHSGCA and continue to grow the Palmetto Tournaments," said tournament director Dave Macpherson. "In 2005, the Palmetto tournaments attracted more than 120 teams from 25 states. This partnership will further help establish the Palmetto High School Golf Championships as the premier high school golf tournaments in the country and introduce more coaches, and ultimately junior golfers, to the great golf courses in Myrtle Beach."
The NHSGCA is a non-profit professional association for high school golf coaches that launched in the spring of 2002. The NHSGCA provides national leadership, meaningful educational programs and services for high school golf coaches and promotes the educational values of high school golf. Additionally, the NHSGCA works with key associations, organizations and entities in the golf industry as part of an ongoing effort to improve coaching at the high school level.
"The Palmetto High School Golf Championships are two of the premier events of their type," remarked Michelle Pond, executive director of the NHSGCA. "The NHSGCA is excited to have a partnership with such outstanding events."
