BEAVERTON, Ore. (December 20, 2005 ) – There’s a new shape of distance forming on the horizon among Nike Golf’s successful premium golf balls, the new Nike One Platinum and new Nike One Black.
Available at golf shops on February 1, 2006, the new Nike One Platinum (SRP: $54.00) and new Nike One Black (SRP: $54.00) balls will be packaged in an eye-catching cube-shaped box rather than the traditional-shaped box of a dozen golf balls seen on shelves in golf shops across the country. At the same time, Nike Golf has enhanced the performance of its One Platinum and One Black by modifying the core of the One Platinum and the cover and dimple pattern of the One Black.
Rock Ishii, Nike Golf’s Director of Product Development and his talented R&D team are confident that these enhancements will make the Nike One golf balls even better. The Nike One Series already has doubled its premium ball share in the last year, and has accumulated 36 wins worldwide among the professional tours.
"For the One Platinum, we wanted to find a way to add more distance to a ball that is known for its incredible spin control and feel around the greens," said Ishii. "Conversely, with the One Black, we wanted to take a ball that is already known for its distance and add more spin control and feel to it."
Once again, Ishii and staff found the solutions. To make it possible for the Nike One Platinum to go farther, he developed the new enhanced Progressive Density Core. Now even softer in the center, firmer toward the edge, the Progressive Density Core further reduces excess spin off the tee to maximize distance and accuracy. Hence, the Nike One Platinum, winner of 11 PGA Tour events in 2005, just got better.
"I’ve really never seen or hit a ball with such all around performance," said Nike Tour staff member KJ Choi about the One Platinum. "I didn’t think Nike could make the One Platinum any better, but they did. I have more confidence in my distance off the tee as well as my performance around the greens."
The construction of the One Platinum has three covers: The inner mantle assures the smooth transition of power to and from the core to enable aggressive play and consistent performance; the outer mantle responds with moderate spin off aggressive mid-irons and enhanced spin off short irons to create more scoring opportunities; the cover is one of the softest covers in the game and offers premium feel and feedback. The tour-proven 408 dimple pattern delivers consistent ball flight with extended carry beyond the apex for longer distance.
The powerful and versatile Nike One Black ball has a new thinner cover and reengineered 408-dimple pattern that minimizes drag and maximizes distance. The large Progressive Density Core assists in reducing excess spin and maximizing energy transfer for ultimate distance. The high-action mantle delivers efficient response, interacts with the core to deliver more power and distance off the tee and interacts with the cover to enhance feel and control into the green. The Nike One Black cover integrates a new enhanced multi-profile 408 dimple pattern with a new softer, more responsive urethane cover to deliver penetrating ball flight and improved greenside feel and control.
"Working with Rock on the new One Black has been a great experience," said Nike Tour staff member Stewart Cink. "It’s amazing that, while they were able to improve feel and control around the greens, they also were able to maximize distance off the tee. I have been and continue to be extremely happy with this ball."
Combined with a fresh way to display at retail and new and improved technology, Nike Golf’s new One Platinum and new One Black will continue to exhibit its familiar winning form by reshaping distance in 2006.
