West End, N.C. – The Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) announces the transition of the Carolinas Interclub Team Competition (CITC) to the CGA beginning in January 2006.
The CITC, founded in 1996 by Ben Payne of Greensboro, NC, now includes 61 clubs in North Carolina and South Carolina.
The CITC matches will be scheduled on Saturdays and/or Sundays and will provide the opportunity for clubs to compete in a Ryder-Cup style team format at exceptional venues in North Carolina and South Carolina.
The competition allows clubs, which are grouped in a geographical area, to play home-and-home matches April through August. The event concludes with the playoffs in September and October. Each eligible club must submit a team roster prior to the season with at least 25 participants who have an established USGA handicap indexes of 18.4 or less.
Twelve players from each club will compete in each of the home-and-home matches. Points will be awarded to winners (Individual and Four-Ball) in each foursome. A points system is used to determine the team winner of the home-and-home series. Teams with the most wins will advance, in a like manner, through the sectional and regional playoffs until a Carolinas Interclub Champion is determined.
"The Carolinas Interclub program will create a great service to our customary club golfers offering them the opportunity to compete in a fun, yet competitive format," said Jack Nance, CGA Executive Director. "Amateur club golf thrives on this type of competition which excites us about this new member service.
In last year’s event, Chapel Hill (NC) Country Club defeated River Run Country Club (Davidson, NC) at the Tanglewood Championship Course (previous host of the PGA Championship and the Seniors PGA Vantage Tour events). The CITC is open to male golfers age 21 and over who are members of CGA member clubs.
