VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. – This year, the Golf For Women Magazine Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Teaching and Club Professional (T&CP) Championship heads to the historic and golf-laden Village of Pinehurst, N.C.
The Golf For Women Magazine LPGA T&CP Championship is the premier tournament for LPGA T&CP members and will be held July 24-26 on Pinehurst Golf Course No. 8. It will also mark the 14th year that Golf For Women Magazine has served as the title sponsor. The Titleist, FootJoy and Cobra Pro-Am will be held July 23 and is open to public participants. The week will also include the Rolex LPGA T&CP Hall of Fame Awards Dinner and Induction Ceremony, which will take place July 21.
The 54-hole tournament consists of stroke-play competition and is one of two major championships for LPGA T&CP members. The Golf For Women Magazine LPGA T&CP Championship features Championship Division players and Senior Division players and is the largest championship for female teaching professionals in the world.
The tournament offers a total purse of $102,000, while the Championship Division pays out $90,000 to participants, including $13,000 to the winner. In addition, the winner of the Championship Division also earns a coveted spot in the 2006 McDonald’s LPGA Championship Presented by Coca-Cola, one of the LPGA’s four major championships. Both division winners are guaranteed a spot in the 2007 Golf For Women Magazine LPGA T&CP Championship.
When the tournament began in 1983 it was held every other year. Since 1993, the tournament has been held annually. Eight different states have hosted the national event, which features 120 LPGA T&CP members in the Championship Division and 24 LPGA T&CP members in the Senior Division, for members over the age of 50.
Last year, Dana Dormann, of Pleasanton, Calif., won the Championship Division by three shots ahead of Tiffany Faucette, of Ormond Beach, Fla., while Linda Groover, of Hobe Sound, Fla., won her second-straight Senior Division title by two strokes over Julie Lynd, of Covina, Calif.
