Piedmont Golf Today, Inc., publishers of regional golf newspapers Triad Golf Today and Triangle Golf Today, has acquired Blue Ridge Golfer based in Galax, Virginia. The semi-annual newspaper covers northwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia.
Barry Poole, founder of the Blue Ridge Golfer, will continue on and oversee sales of the Blue Ridge Golfer. Production and printing will move to Forsyth County. The newspaper will start its ninth year of circulation in 2006. An online print version will be available at www.blueridgegolftrail.com in April. "The opportunity to merge Blue Ridge Golfer fits neatly into what we have been doing. We can offer increased distribution for our advertisers and there is a considerable amount of real estate growth in the mountain area from residents in the Triad and Triangle," stated Jay Allred, Publisher.
In addition all three newspapers will have full color on every page and upgrade to a premium stock of paper. "We felt this was the time to move to a more upscale look in our publications. We are currently undertaking a redesign of our publication due to the increased capabilities of a new commercial printer," stated Allred.
Additionally Triangle Golf Today will expand from five to seven issues in 2006. "We have seen great growth in the Triangle market and feel this presents us with the opportunity to expand with the increased demand from our advertisers. Our readers for some time have asked for more issues but it has to come with increased advertising for a free distribution newspaper. David Droschak editor of Triangle Golf Today has done a great job this past year and the demand shows this," said Allred.
Piedmont Golf Today, Inc. launched its first newspaper in 1994 with Triad Golf Today. Triangle Golf Today was launched in 2000. The combined circulation will be at 120,000 per issue. Triad Golf Today covers central North Carolina and Triangle Golf Today covers east central North Carolina and eastern North Carolina.
