(Stockbridge, Georgia, January 10, 2006)â?¦â?¦.The Atlanta Charity Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez, an LPGA event featuring the world’s top women golfers, has announced a partnership in which Henry Medical Center and its Foundation will be the primary beneficiary of charitable proceeds from the Tournament. Known for its history of dedicated service to Henry County and neighboring communities, Henry Medical Center is a vital health care resource providing high quality care, emergency services and outreach programs to promote health and wellness throughout the region.
"We are proud to partner with Nancy Lopez as the official host and Henry Medical Center as the primary charity of our event," noted J. T. Williams, Chairman of Metro South Golf Charities, the tournament’s governing body. "Our local community, fans, volunteers and sponsors really appreciate the opportunity to serve as Atlanta’s home to the LPGA."
Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge will serve as the tournament host, April 17-23, for the fifteenth consecutive year. Annika Sorenstam, the world’s top ranked player, captured the 2005 title by a tournament record 10 shots. The only two-time winner of the tournament, Sorenstam is expected back to defend her title against 143 of the top professionals in the world.
Other golfers likely to participate this year include 2005 Rookie of the Year, Paula Creamer; Natalie Gulbis; Karrie Webb; Lorena Ochoa; U.S. Open champion, Birdie Kim; and U.S. Amateur champion, Morgan Pressell, who is now a professional. The golfers will be competing for a purse of $1.6 million and a first place check of $240,000.
