CBS Continues Role as Dominant Carrier of PGA TOUR
CBS Sports and the PGA TOUR today announced the completion of a new television agreement. Under the term of a new six-year deal, CBS will provide weekend coverage of the PGA TOUR for the 2007 through 2012 seasons.
"CBS is delighted that it has expanded its relationship with the PGA TOUR," said Sean McManus, President of CBS News and Sports. "We value our relationship with the TOUR very highly, and have tremendous confidence that the TOUR is well-positioned for continued growth and success. We’re excited to play such a key role in that growth, and look forward to our expanded TOUR schedule. We wanted to be the leading carrier of events through the season-long FedEx Cup competition because we believe the new format will bring additional fans to the sport and add drama throughout the schedule."
CBS will expand its current role as the dominant carrier of PGA TOUR golf, increasing its annual event coverage from 16 to 19. CBS Sports will broadcast the strongest West Coast tournaments, including the Buick Invitational in San Diego and the Nissan Open in Los Angeles, in addition to the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and FBR Open. CBS also will broadcast most of the PGA TOUR tournaments through the spring and summer months of FedEx Cup competition, including the Wachovia Championship, the Memorial Tournament Presented by Morgan Stanley, The International and the World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational. The schedule will finish with the Barclays Classic, the first of the four-event Championship Series, which culminates the PGA TOUR’s FedEx Cup season.
CBS Sports begins its 56th year broadcasting golf in 2006, continuing to offer viewers the most comprehensive lineup in the history of network television.
