(PEBBLE BEACH, Calif.) – The Northern California Section of the PGA is pleased to announce that PGA Member Al Krueger of Round Hill Country Club (Alamo, Calif.) is the recipient of the NCPGA Bill Strausbaugh Award. He received the award in recognition of his mentoring contributions to fellow PGA members and apprentices. Krueger graciously accepted the honor at the NCPGA Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony at Monterey Peninsula Country Club in Pebble Beach, Calif. More than 330 PGA members and special guests were in attendance, including several PGA Professionals who previously worked under the successful tutelage of Krueger.
Having dedicated over 40 years to the golf business, Kruger is highly respected by his colleagues as evidenced by the standing ovation he received from his peers when presented the NCPGA Bill Strausbaugh Award. "Al’s presence shines brightly through the numerous golf professionals he has mentored throughout his career," said Jay McDaniel, NCPGA Awards Chair. "He continues to share his knowledge with others, and is a positive role model for so many of us in the golf business."
Krueger has served on the board of directors for the Northern California PGA and is currently a director for the section’s senior division. An accomplished player, Kruger earned Senior Player of the Year honors more than once and has been a member of the Senior Cup team since 1991. Over the years, he has volunteered his time as a rules official at a variety of events. To this day, he remains a big supporter of junior golf. Because of his superior contributions, in 1992 Kruger was named Golf Professional of the Year, the highest distinction earned by a PGA member.
Krueger received the prestigious Bill Strausbaugh Award on the heels of his recent retirement as long-time, head golf professional at Round Hill Country Club. Additional recognition came for Krueger in 2005, as his club members and staff named the newly constructed bridge on the No. 3 hole at Round Hill Country Club in his honor.
