Frequency Tuned Technology… Grip to Tip Taper Profile… Superior Performance
Memphis, TN â?¦True Temper® is proud to unveil the newest member of the "gold" family of products at the 2006 PGA Merchandise Show. The new Black Gold® combines Frequency Tunedâ?¢ technology with the company’s proprietary Grip to Tipâ?¢ taper profile to produce the most consistent stepless golf shaft in the game today with superior energy transfer. In addition, the shaft features a descending weight design (shafts get progressively lighter from long iron to short iron lengths) in combination with a stepless, straight tapered profile to provide a distinct feel at impact. Black Gold produces a low-to-mid ball flight perfectly suited for golf’s stronger players and those seeking a penetrating tour-caliber trajectory.
"The initiative with Black Gold was to produce a stepless shaft that not only had incredible playing characteristics but unmatched consistency versus anything currently in the stepless category," states Scott Hennessy, President & CEO, True Temper Sports. "It is our precise manufacturing process that has established True Temper’s gold series of shafts as the very best available and will position Black Gold as the most consistent stepless shaft in the game today."
For years custom clubfitters have used shaft frequency as the measurement tool to compare the specific flex progression of a set of shafts. The end goal is to "match" a set of shafts based upon a progressive "slope" to produce a consistent set of irons. Until now, the shortcoming of most frequency designed shafts has been the primary focus on frequency as the prominent design consideration while failing to recognize the significant contribution of weight, balance point, wall thickness and shaft diameter to the overall performance of the club system.
Black Gold introduces Frequency Tunedâ?¢ performance. Incorporating True Temper’s proprietary "Gold" manufacturing process, each of these critical shaft parameters is held to unparalleled standards resulting in the first shaft ever to combine pinpoint frequency specification with exacting weight tolerances and balance for superior repeatability and consistency.
"Frequency is just one small dimension of the overall club system," states Graeme Horwood, Vice President of Engineering / R & D. "With Black Gold, we not only focus on finished shaft frequency, but also weight, wall thickness, balance point and the consistent taper rate of the shaft from butt to tip. This attention to detail produces what we call a Frequency Tunedâ?¢ set of iron shafts with consistent feel and performance shot after shot and round after round."
Utilizing True Temper’s manufacturing expertise, the shaft’s taper rate (shaft diameter getting progressively smaller from grip to clubhead) is held at a remarkably constant reduction producing Black Gold’s proprietary Grip To Tipâ?¢ flex profile. This unique design characteristic allows the shaft to store the force created in the downswing more efficiently for maximum energy transfer at impact.
An exclusive feature making Black Gold truly unique is the proprietary "gold nickel" plating process that gives the shaft its distinct appearance. This proprietary plating process produces a distinctive gold "aging" effect over time for the ultimate expression of individuality and personality.
Black Gold is available in both tapered and parallel versions in R, S, X and Tour X flexes. The shaft can be purchased in pre-tip trimmed Frequency Tunedâ?¢ sets of 3-PW or 41" parallel shafts that provide individual trimming options. The shaft is currently being tested by numerous tour professionals and is available for purchase through all major component distributors and top OEM’s.
