17th Annual Golf Tournament to Feature Top Stars of Champions Tour
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (January 16, 2006) – The AT&T Classic today announced the early commitments of players scheduled to compete in its 2006 tournament, scheduled March 6-12, 2006 at the acclaimed Valencia Country Club in Santa Clarita. In 2005, winner Des Smyth had the luck of the Irish on his side as he scored a 4-under 68 on the final day of the tournament to win by one stroke. There are currently 89 players committed to competing at this year’s AT&T Classic, with additional players being added in the coming weeks, according to Brian Fitzgerald, AT&T Classic executive director.
"The AT&T Classic has grown into one of the top Champions Tour events," said Fitzgerald. "From the stellar performance of the players each year to the challenging layout of the course, the AT&T Classic is an event that both golfers and fans look forward to attending. We’re anticipating our roster of golfers to expand in the coming weeks and look forward to hosting another exciting tournament in 2006."
Notable players who are scheduled to compete at this year’s AT&T Classic includes last year’s winner Des Smyth, three-time winner Gil Morgan, 2002 winner Tom Kite, seven-time PGA Tour winner Peter Jacobsen, and 2003 winner Tom Purtzer. Other notable players attending are Ben Crenshaw and Curtis Strange (see below for a full list of competitors). Each day of the 2006 AT&T Classic will be aired on The Golf Channel.
Tickets are available for purchase through the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Foundation at 661-253-8082 as well as via the Los Angeles County Junior Golf Foundation at 213-738-2972. Also, the tournament is inviting additional charities and nonprofit organizations to join the "Charity Partners" program, which provides organizations the opportunity to use the AT&T Classic to generate funds through the sale of tickets and corporate hospitality.
