SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS — Long Drivers of America (LDA) today announced exempt competitors for the 2006 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship, the premier event in power golf.
The $500,000 RE/MAX WLDC finals will take place October 23-28 at The Palms GC in Mesquite, Nevada. Exempt competitors advance directly to RE/MAX championship week without having to qualify at local and district events during the spring and summer.
Reigning RE/MAX world champion Sean (The Beast) Fister heads the list of exempt competitors in the open division. Others (in alphabetical order) are: Brooks Baldwin, Clayton Burger, Andy Davis, Dave Gureckis, Viktor Johansson, Logan Leavitt, Danny Luirette, David Mobley, Steve Monroe, Mike Moulton, Brian Pavlet, Art Sellinger, Scott Smith, Adam Stacey, Jeff Swihart, Carl Wolter and Jason Zuback.
Additionally, special exemptions have been awarded to Vince Ciurluini, Glen Stroberg and Greg Wellong, bringing total exemptions in the open division to 21.
Exempt competitors in the RE/MAX WLDC senior division (ages 45-54) include reigning world champion Gerry James. Others are Scott DeCandia, Pat Dempsey, Ted Fostey, Mike Gorton, Eric Jones, Frank Miller, George Moisoff and Bobby Wilson.
Kurt Moore and Rick Tijerina have been awarded special exemptions, increasing the number of exempt hitters in the senior division to 11.
Reigning world champion Stacey Shinnick heads the list of exempt hitters in the women’s division. Others are Nancy Abiecunas, Lee Brandon, Melissa Brydon, Sally Dee, Lizzy Uthoff and Lisa Vlooswyk. Special exemptions have been extended to Jo D. Duncan, Nicolle DiSanto and Jennifer Whitmore, bringing the total to 10.
Exempt hitters in the super senior division (ages 55 and up), include reigning world champion Steve Griffith. Others are Rick Barry, Bill Droege, Michael Hooper, Fred Hooter and Phil Karmelich. Special exemptions have been awarded to Obie Anderson and Steve DiPietro, increasing super senior division exemptions to eight.
A total of 272 competitors will be in the field when golf’s biggest hitters gather in Mesquite next fall for the 2006 RE/MAX WLDC. A breakdown by divisions shows:
Open Division — 128 hitters/21 exempt
Senior Division — 64 hitters/11 exempt
Women’s Division — 48 hitters/10 exempt
Super Senior Division — 32 hitters/8 exempt.
