WEST END, NC (1/20/06)-The Carolinas Golf Association Annual Meeting will take place on Friday, February 10, 2006 at National Golf Club in Pinehurst, NC. Cost is $50 per person and includes golf on Friday morning (11:00am shotgun) at National Golf Club followed by cocktails and dinner at 6:00pm.

Annual Meeting is open to any member, golf professional or employee of a CGA member club. Tom Meeks, former USGA Director of Rules and Competitions, will be the featured speaker. A silent auction will be held with proceeds benefiting the Carolinas Golf Foundation. Also, 2005 Carolinas Players of the Year and 2005 CGA Champions will be honored.

Reservation deadline is Friday, February 3. For a reservation form, visit www.carolinasgolf.org or contact Tiffany Priest at 910-673-1000.

The Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) will conduct a USGA-approved handicap seminar Friday morning, February 10 at The National Golf Club in Pinehurst.

After the United States Golf Association (USGA) instituted a handicap certification requirement (between 2002 and 2005) for every club in the U.S., the CGA conducted 32 seminars in 2004 and 2005. As a result, every CGA member club attended a seminar, took the required test and passed it.

"This says a lot about our member clubs," said CGA Executive Director Jack Nance. "Across the U.S., many clubs had not met this obligation by the end of last year; and the USGA extended the deadline into 2006. But our member clubs were responsive to this obligation."

Because each club has met this responsibility, none are required to attend a handicap seminar in 2006 or 2007.

"Because handicap committees turn over every year or two, many clubs have expressed an interest in sending new committee members to one of these seminars in 2006," Nance said. "This is the first scheduled CGA handicap seminar in 2006, and anyone interested is eligible to attend."

The seminar fee is $18 and includes USGA handicap handouts and lunch. Registration begins at 8:30, and the seminar will start about 9:00 a.m. The CGA Annual Meeting will take place later that evening at The National Golf Club.
