The Executive Committee of the Golf Association of Philadelphia approved John Holsten as Secretary at its second board meeting of 2006 last Thursday.
Mr. Holsten, 61, of Newtown Square, Pa., a member at Aronimink Golf Club, has been part of the Executive Committee since 2003. He currently heads the organization’s Membership Committee and is also a member of the Administration, Finance and Golf Administration committees.
At its Annual Meeting last October, the Golf Association of Philadelphia members voted and approved a split of the Secretary-Treasurer position into a Secretary role and Treasure role. This was done to allow an additional person to serve on the Administration Committee and assist in greater succession planning.
Daniel Burton, President of the Golf Association of Philadelphia, proposed Mr. Holsten to fill this new role. It was unanimously approved.
Mr. Holsten is a former president, vice president and membership chairman at Aronimink Golf Club. A member since 1973, he captured the club championship in 1984 and was the runner-up in 1985. Mr. Holsten, who majored in finance at Georgetown University, is the longtime owner/president of Holsten Builders in Springfield (Delaware Country), Pa.
Rich Meehan of Moorestown Field Club held the dual role as Secretary-Treasurer. He will remain the Association’s Treasurer.
