NEW YORK, New York, January 24, 2006 – GPS Industries Inc. (OTCBB: GPSN), a leading innovator of Wi-Fi and GPS-enabled multimedia communications and management solutions for golf facilities, resorts, sporting events and residential communities has joined forces through its Synergy Golf Solutions distributor with GolfSmart Media. The new partnership allows golf courses to generate instant revenue on every cart round played, while allowing GolfSmart to set up and administer advertising buys on the "Inforemer" GPS/Wi-Fi product.
Through advanced Wi-Fi technology, each "Inforemer" unit provides golfers with GPS distance measurement, along with real-time sports content from the Internet, streaming video capabilities for advertising content, and the product also turns an entire golf course into an Internet "Hot Spot".
This is the first program of its kind in North America, and the first of its kind in the world. The new program, called the Guaranteed Revenue Program, provides guaranteed revenue to courses based on the number of cart rounds a golf course generates annually. In return for this per round cash payment, GolfSmart Media receives the right to place and administer advertising on the "Inforemer" units, which can be either cart mounted or handheld, another industry first for GPS Industries.
Golf courses can annually earn up to, or even more than 40% of the cost of installing the "Inforemer" on their course through this new program, guaranteed. "At a time when round rates are flattening in North America and with competition in the marketplace increasing each year, there has never been a better time to invest in GPS with WiFi capabilities, to give golfers a distance measurement device and at the same time allow them a course-wide Internet connection for their PDA’s, cell phones and all Internet based technologies." Says Dave Hodgson, the first General Manager in Canada to install the "Inforemer" at his course, and now a partner in Synergy Golf Solutions.
"Our first customer, Ontario-based Mill Run golf course, earned more than $40,000 profit in their first year of operations and will earn even more this year under the Guaranteed Revenue Program," continues Hodgson. Adds GolfSmart Media executive Marvyn Budd: "This program is a great win-win for ourselves and for participating courses. Our company knows the advertising business, we literally do all the work involved, and a golf course will make money each time their carts drive a round of golf while they can continue to focus exclusively on course management."
Courses are also given the option of sharing directly in the advertising revenue, if they prefer to take a chance at higher returns, by simply waiving the per round cart fee and instead partnering with GolfSmart Media. Higher volume courses with higher ad buys have the possibility of generating significantly greater advertising income for themselves, while GolfSmart Media still does all the work involved. "We have flexible plans for every type of golf course traffic volume and management situation," adds Hodgson.
Says Robert Silzer, Sr., CEO and President of GPS Industries: "There has never been an easier and more cost effective way to add GPS to a golf course. This advertising partnership adds guaranteed income to any course, helps cover the installation costs, and should cover the entire installation cost in about three years, and high traffic volume courses will cover their installation costs even faster."
This new program allows the "Inforemer" GPS/Wi-Fi product to literally pay for itself in a short period of time. And future benefits of the product are beginning to manifest with each new platform advance in WiFi. Adds Silzer: "With new WiFi applications launching practically monthly, our product will continue to grow in its ability to provide cutting edge technology to course management and golfers alike as we provide a wireless Internet connection covering the entire course when we install our GPS product. Courses are already able to add wireless security cameras, and developers are currently structuring new cell phone, PDA, computer and even television and movie technologies around the WiFi platform, so courses will soon be able to offer their players even more convenience thanks to our technology and service."
