Bellevue, Wash. – The Washington State Golf Association has finalized its 2006 championship schedule. The schedule returns the association’s five traditional championships to some classic layouts while also featuring a new event at the area’s newest resort destination.
Details of the 2006 WSGA Championship Schedule include:
* Women’s Best-Ball Championship, Yakima Country Club (Yakima), May 22-23
* Men’s Best-Ball Championship, Trophy Lake Golf & Casting Club (Port Orchard), May 25-26
* Men’s & Women’s Club Team Championship, Suncadia Resort (Roslyn), June 5-6**
* Women’s Amateur Championship, Rainier Golf & Country Club (Seattle), June 27-29
* Men’s Amateur Championship, McCormick Woods Golf Course (Port Orchard), June 27-30
* Senior Men’s Amateur Championship, Spokane Country Club (Spokane), September 18-20
** Denotes new event for 2006
In other championship news, the Board of Directors of the Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) has approved the use of distance-measuring devices by Local Rule in the association’s 2006 championships. Decision 14-3/05 of the Decisions on the Rules of Golf that went into effect on January 1, 2006 requires a Local Rule permitting the use of distance-measuring devices to be in effect. The approval from the WSGA Board of Directors gives the WSGA Championship Committee the ability to institute the Local Rule on a competition-by-competition basis.
